Research Interests: (Applied and Industrial Microbiology)
Development of microbially-based processing technology to produce foods, fuels, chemicals and new biomaterials from biomass. Research involves isolation and improvement of microbial strains, design and development of processing technology, scale-up and optimization of processes (lab to pilot plant scale), and technical and economic feasibility analyses. Current areas of interest include: edible mushrooms, ethanol fuel, organic acids, bacteriocins, non-corrosive deicers, and microbial exopolysaccharides.
