CENSUS DATA / RURAL LIFE CENTER

Background:
The SDSU Census Data / Rural Life Center provides South Dakotans with federal, state, and local population information concerning family, education, government, agriculture, business, and employment.

The Data center was established in 1981 through a joint agreement between the Census Bureau and the state of South Dakota. In return for receiving publications and cd-roms from the Census Bureau, the Data Center assists data users in locating the information they need.
Objectives:
1. Provide public with Census Bureau and Rural Life information.
2. Provide research assistance to data users.
3. Prepare indicators of the socio-demographic characteristics of the state and local areas.
4. Analyze rural trends.
Requesting Information:
Businesses, organizations, private and public agencies, and individuals are encouraged to use the services of the Census Data / Rural Life Center. Most requests can be handled by phone with support material following in the mail. This service is free to South Dakotans, although there may be a minimum charge for the costs of materials and publications provided.
