Battalion Commander (CO)
Duty Description:
Commander of the Cadet Battalion. Responsible for the
actions of the battalion and the staff. Receives
directions from the cadre and in turn directs and
oversees the battalion staff.

Battalion Command Sergeant Major (CSM)
Duty Description:
The command sergeant major carries out policies
and standards of the performance, training,
appearance, and conduct of enlisted personnel. The
command sergeant major advises and initiates
recommendations to the commander and staff in matters
pertaining to the local NCO support channel. The
command sergeant major’s counsel is expected to be
calm, settled and unequivocally accurate, but with an
energy and enthusiasm that never wanes, even in the
worst of times.

Battalion Executive Officer (XO)
Duty Description:
The XO serves as second in command of the battalion.
He/she is the principal assistant to the CO. The XO
directs, coordinates and supervises the activities of
the staff sections.

Battalion Personnel Officer (S-1)
Duty Description:
The S-1 is responsible for officer personnel
management, unit strength management, legal
administration, morale activities and a multitude of
administrative tasks such as the management of the
sponsorship program, support to the unit family
support group, and so forth.

Battalion Intelligence Officer (S-2)
Duty Description:
The S-2 is responsible for the production and
dissemination of combat intelligence matters. He or
she also assits the CO and staff in physical security
matters. To fulfill the primary responsiblility of
producing combat intelligence, the S-2 collects,
collates, evaluates, interprets and disseminates
information on the enemy, weather, and terrain which
may influence the accomplishment of the unit mission.

Battalion Operations Officer (S-3)
Duty Description:
The S-3 has staff responsibility for planning the
operations, organizations, and training as directed by
the CO. The S-3 works closely with the XO to
accomplish his or her mission. The S-3 writes
operational directives, plans tactical orders, field
training exercises, training schedules, and other
duties. The S-3 prepares courses of action and
recommends to the CO actions or decisions for the
accomplishment of the mission.

Battalion Logistics Officer (S-4)
Duty Description:
The S-4 has staff responsibility for the logistics
services and facilities available to the battalion.
These are supply, transportation, maintenance,
logistics plans and records, and other similar
duties. The S-4 prepares logistical plans and
appropriate portions of published orders and plans

Battalion Civil-Military Affairs Officer (S-5)
Duty Description:
The S-5 has staff responsibility for planning,
coordinating, and supervision of all cadet recruiting
activities to include mailings, recruiting booths,
telephone campaigns, and interviews. He or she works
directly with the cadre Recruiting Operations Officer
and informs all cadets of enrollment. The S-5 also
promotes the Army ROTC program and activities to
others through the use of the school newspaper,
flyers, posters, and whatever else deemed necessary in
order to draw attention to the program in a positive
manner. The S-5 also serves as the Air Force ROTC
liaison.

Battalion Signal Officer (S-6)
Duty Description:
The S-6 serves as the principle staff officer
for all matters concerning the installation
and use of communication systems and the
activities of communications personnel.
The Batallion S-3 directs his specific duties.
