Jason Owens, a native of Paducah, Kentucky, received a Bachelor of Sciences degree in French and German in 1990, a Master of Arts in German & European Studies in 1995, and a PhD. in German with emphasis on linguistics and cultural studies in 2001, all from Georgetown University in Washington, DC.  He subsequently taught at The George Washington University and Montgomery College, both in the national capital area, as well as at Whitman College in Walla Walla in the state of Washington.  He advises the German Club and Delta Phi Alpha (the German honors society).  Dr. Owens main interests lie in questions of identity, especially in relation to ethnic-German minorities outside Germany and minorities within Germany.  Having lived in Germany, Togo, and Namibia, he has written on Germans in Africa and Africans in Germany.

 

 

Dr. Jason Owens stammt aus Paducah Kentucky. Er hat Germanistik und Romanistik an der Georgetown University in der US-amerikanischen Hauptstadt studiert.  Dort hat er auch an der George Washington University und an Montgomery College unterrichtet.  Danach war er am Whitman College im Bundesstadt Washington tätig.  Er ist das zuständige Fakultätsmitglied für Delta Phi Alpha.  Herr Doktor Owens interessiert sich vor allem für Identitätsfragen, u.a. für die deutschen Minderheiten außerhalb Deutschlands und für die verschiedenen Minderheiten innerhalb der deutschen Staatsgrenzen.  Der Afrika-Kenner, der nicht nur in Deutschland, sondern auch in Togo und Namibia gelebt hat, hat über Deutsche in Afrika und umgekehrt geschrieben.
