 Dr. John Walker
John Walker holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Master of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and Bachelor of Music from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He studied piano pedagogy at the New School for Music Study under Frances Clark and Louise Goss.
Dr. Walker is Associate Professor of Music and Director of Keyboard Studies at SDSU, and Principal Keyboard for the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra. He has presented numerous piano and harpsichord workshops to music teacher associations and is frequently called upon to serve as a piano festival and competition adjudicator. He has composed and recorded piano accompaniments to the Rose 32 Clarinet Etudes and Ferling 48 Studies for Oboe or Saxophone, both sets published by Carl Fischer. He also records other instrumental accompaniment CDs for Carl Fischer as well. His arrangements for clarinet and piano and two pianos are published by Dorn Publications and Manduca Music.
Dr. Walker is a recipient of the F. O. Butler Award for Faculty Excellence in Creative Activity, and his piano students include winners of the SDMTA collegiate piano competition, and the MTNA State Young Artist Competition. He lives in Brookings with his wife Mary, and son Dorian.

John Walker Performs the Beethoven 32 SonatasIn Spring 2008 Dr. Walker began a performance cycle of the Beethoven 32 Piano Sonatas that will continue through 2012. Performing this sonata cycle at home and throughout the region will be dedicated to the commitment of the SDSU Music Department to becoming an All-Steinway School.
