Welcome to South Dakota State University's Civil and Environmental Engineering department web page.  The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department offers opportunities for a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Engineering with emphasis areas(s) in most civil engineering disciplines including structural, environmental, geotechnical, water resources, and transportation. Civil Engineering is a broad discipline including the location, design, construction, operation and maintenance of highways, airports, buildings, bridges, dams, water supply and distribution systems, waste water collection and treatment plants, irrigation and drainage systems, river and harbor improvements and many other facilities considered essential in modern life. Graduates of the CEE department at SDSU enjoy the opportunity to tackle a wide variety of problems and the satisfaction of being at the forefront in serving the infrastructure needs of society. Our graduates are highly sought after by a variety of employers, engaged in a broad spectrum of professional pursuits including public agencies at the federal, state and local level, and private industry as consultants, designers, and managers. Many of our graduates have risen to high levels in private firms as well as in governmental agencies.

The ABET accredited, Undergraduate Civil Engineering Program at SDSU provides a broad-based and practical education enabling our students to succeed in a highly variable and changing environment. The undergraduate program provides a rigorous education designed to serve the student over their entire career.

The Graduate Engineering Programs at SDSU enable students to advance their knowledge in areas of interest to the student. Graduate students work with their advisor to create a program of coursework, research and design that meets the student's career goals.

The department's faculty are engaged in research in numerous important areas, which offers opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students.
