Dr. Reid has over 25 years of civil, geotechnical, transportation, and environmental engineering experience. His career started in the Air Force as an environmental engineer for Ellsworth Air Force Base, SD. In that portion he was responsible for ensuring compliance with all Environmental Protection Agency regulations which included environmental monitoring, permitting, training, and response. As a design civil engineer, he planned and designed new roads as well and the rehabilitation of existing streets. Following his graduate education, he served as a research engineer for the Air Force focusing on the design, construction and full-scale testing of structures to resist explosions. In addition to his own research, he funded and supervised research conducted by private research companies and universities. This work included the innovative use of reinforced soil for explosive barriers. After his active military service, Dr. Reid began his academic career at South Dakota State University teaching geotechnical and transportation classes and conducting research in those areas. He also served as a civil engineer fro the South Dakota Air National Guard and been a private consultant.
