Construction, the largest industry in the United States, plays a significant role in the nation's economic life, and continues to grow in size and scope. Employment opportunities are excellent in this highly competitive, exciting and diversified business. Properly educated people can expect exceptional job opportunities.

The Construction Management program prepares graduates for employment in the construction industry to effectively manage various construction projects. The program integrates courses and topics from business management, construction engineering, and construction management. This unique combination of various disciplines provides the graduates of this program to perform effectively in as construction managers in the construction industry. Graduates from this program find jobs in many construction management related areas including, but not limited to, cost estimators, project managers, and project superintendents. The CM curriculum has been developed using the guidelines provided by the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) and the Associated General Contractors (AGC). The CM curriculum meets the requirements of the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) which is the accreditation agency for construction management programs.


Construction Management Mission Statement

The program prepares graduates to ethically and competently assume entry level positions in construction management whether it be in building, civil, specialty or entrepreneurial areas of construction.

Construction Management Program Educational Goals

(Student Outcomes)

1.  Students shall compare favorably in their technical and managerial knowledge with students completing similar programs at other regional and national institutions.

2.  Students demonstrate entry level expertise in Estimating.

3.  Students demonstrate entry level expertise in Project Management.

4.  Students demonstrate entry level expertise in Field Supervision.

5.  Students demonstrate entry level expertise in Contract Administration.

6.   Students demonstrate entry level expertise in Construction Safety.

7.   Students demonstrate entry level expertise in Construction Field Layout.

8.  Students demonstrate entry level expertise in Comprehension of the Design Process.

9.  Students demonstrate entry level expertise in Construction Planning & Scheduling.

10. Students shall understand the work ethic expectations that the industry demands of them and exhibit that understanding during the summer internship

11. Students shall understand the ethical expectations of the construction industry.

12. Students shall comply with the advanced writing requirement as specified by the University.

13. Students shall comply with the informational technology literacy requirement as specified by  the University.

14. Students shall have the opportunity to be productively employed in the construction industry in some entry level aspect of managing construction projects in the state, region, or nation.
