Mission: The purpose (mission) of the departmental Advisory Board is to provide the Department of Mathematics and Statistics with external comment and evaluation of our Department that will help us with continual improvement in our programs. Such improvement is considered vital for the Department to successfully fulfill our Land Grant mission and objectives. Particular areas of interest include (1) The characteristics graduates from our programs ought to have, (2) An assessment of our courses and curricula, and (3) Identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the department with suggestions for improvement.
Discussions could also extend to areas such as technology, assessment strategies, recruitment of undergraduate and graduate students, internships and employment opportunities.
Responsibilities: The Board will meet once per year to interact with students and faculty from the Mathematics and Statistics Department. The head of the department (or designee) will correspond with the Board, arrange and conduct Board meetings, take and distribute minutes of those meetings, and be responsible for initiating any action items the Board may decide on.
Initial Meeting: March 14-15, 2003
