Kari Scovel, Ph.D.

Kari Scovel Hendrickson, Ph.D. has taught as an assistant professor for SDSU West River Graduate Center since 2000. Dr. Scovel Hendrickson teaches Practicum, which is a clinical and experiential course. She has also taught Pre-Practicum, Statistics and Research. She has worked in the area of mental health since 1991.

Dr. Scovel Hendrickson received her Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of South Dakota in 2000, where she graduated with honors. She received her master’s of science in 1993 in counseling in human resource development from South Dakota State University.

Dr. Scovel Hendrickson is a licensed psychologist, licensed professional counselor of mental health and a qualified mental health counselor.

Dr. Scovel Hendrickson has been in practice for eight years and sees patients at Scovel Psychological and Counseling Services, LTD, Rapid City Regional Hospital, and the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Clinic at Sanford School of Medicine. She enjoys conducting individual, marital and family psychotherapy sessions.

Dr. Scovel Hendrickson was elected to 2008 President of the South Dakota Psychological Association (SDPA). She will serve as President from April 2008 to April 2009.

Dr. Scovel Hendrickson was also awarded the 2008 Outstanding Faculty Award in Counseling and Human Resource Development from the students of the South Dakota Statue University (SDSU) College of Education and Counseling West River Graduate Center. This award was in recognition and appreciation for exceptional teaching and service to students.

Dr. Scovel Hendrickson published an article in the January 2002 The Journal of Mental Health Counseling entitled “Mental Health Counselor’s Perceptions Regarding Psychopharmacological Prescriptive Privileges”.

Dr. Scovel Hendrickson is married and will welcome her first child this year.
