Mike Rounds Governor of South Dakota Political Science, B.S
Michael Mike Rounds was sworn in as South Dakotas 31st governor on January 7, 2003. Gov. Rounds is committed to working with South Dakotans to make this state a better place to live, work and raise a family.
Rounds was born in Huron, SD in 1954 and is a lifelong resident of Pierre.
He attended South Dakota State University, where he earned his B.S. in political science. Gov. Rounds was first elected to the South Dakota Senate in 1990 and was reelected in each of the next four elections. He represented District 24, which includes Pierre and the surrounding area. In 1994, Rounds was chosen by his peers to serve as Senate majority leader, a post he held from 1995 until he was term-limited in 2000. In his position as South Dakotas Governor, Rounds brings energy and enthusiasm to his vision of an unprecedented era of opportunity. |
